It’s not just because we have such a wonderful community, but that definitely plays a big part! Gleniffer Lake Resort and Golf Course is a special home away from home for many snowbirds and families alike, offering some of the best summer lake activities around in a low-traffic community. And why is that? Because we have some of the cleanest, clearest waters in central Alberta. Here are a few other reasons our lake is so special!

 

Gleniffer Lake is a deep, river-fed body of water that spans almost seven kilometres long and two kilometres wide. It’s a little slice of heaven for those who enjoy a day of sailing or boating and we’re excited to be able to rent slips for your crafts while you stay with us. The immaculate waters are blue-green, algae free and we’re dedicated to keeping it clean and clear for you to enjoy swimming, floating and playing. The lake offers almost 5,000 feet of clean, sandy shoreline, perfect for sandcastle competitions with the grandkids! Or maybe this is the year you take your kids fishing! Gleniffer Lake might just be the perfect place to learn, with a healthy population of walleye, pike and trout to teach the youngsters the art of catch and release. Thanksgiving at Gleniffer Lake

The time of turkey dinners, pumpkin pie and warm company is upon us once again! We count ourselves lucky the cold hasn’t gripped us too hard yet and it’s one of the many things we’re thankful for here at Gleniffer Lake. If you haven’t heard of our year round, friendly, gated community, it’s time we introduced ourselves!
 
At Gleniffer Lake, there’s no shortage of things to be thankful for. While summertime is our high season, we still see family getaways and staycations well into September and sometimes even into early October. Getting away from the hustle of the city is a must and what better place to escape than a resort basically in your backyard? The gated community is situated 75 minutes north of Calgary, just under two hours south of Edmonton and a quick 35 minute drive from Red Deer. We have tons of recreational activities to keep you and the kids busy, including an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis courts, a baseball diamond and basketball courts. Did we mention that our 9 hole golf course is a hit in the summer? These are just some of the amenities you can expect to enjoy next time you visit Gleniffer Lake!

Gleniffer Lake – A Snowbird’s Paradise

It comes as no surprise to anyone that spending winter in Alberta isn’t on any retiree’s bucket list. But while we old birds love to travel to warmer shores during those snowy, bitter months, what about when it’s summer time here at home? Did you know that don’t have to travel out of province to find a little slice of sandy heaven? A seventy-five minute commute out of Calgary or a two hour trip south of Edmonton, Gleniffer Lake offers a special kind of paradise that’s basically in our backyards. Here’s how you can have a taste of that beachfront getaway without having to travel thousands of miles!
 
Though it might not be the Caribbean, shoreside at Gleniffer Lake is the next best thing. The clean, crystal clear waters are perfect for every water activity you can think of. Sand castle competitions with the grandkids are possible every weekend of their summer vacation on the nearly five thousand feet of pristine shoreline. You can finally fulfill your dream of sailing or simply spend a lazy summer day on the water, or you can fish to your heart’s content for rainbow trout. The local residents have found a special kind of peace fishing out here at Gleniffer Lake and you might want to come see what they’re talking about! With boat slips available for purchase or for rent, it’s so easy to slip right into the captain’s chair of your perfect summer.
 
If you don’t want to get your feet wet, there’s plenty of other things to do on the resort. Our challenging 9 hole golf course and gorgeous putting greens are sure to please pros and beginners alike. If you love being in the sport rather than just watching, we’ve got a baseball diamond, tennis and basketball courts and beach volleyball to keep you limber. Once the game is over, you can visit our general store, which is open all year long, and treat you and your teammates to ice cream.

Gleniffer Lake Resort and the Summer Events Calendar!

If you haven’t heard, Gleniffer Lake is the place to be this summer. Not just for the views, but for the events we love to host! For those who live fulltime on the lake, the calendar of events during the summer months is such a nice reminder of the community that surrounds this gorgeous lakeside resort. If you’re a visitor to Gleniffer Lake, this community events calendar might have exactly what you need to relax on your next summer vaycay!
Once you’ve settled in at one of our beautiful rental properties, take a look at what kind of activities we offer and find what suits you! If yoga is what you crave, you better believe we have yoga classes for you Tuesday mornings at 9:30 am and at 9:00 am on Wednesdays and Thursday. If these are a little early for you, we also host a class at 11am on Mondays. All our yoga classes meet at the landing if weather is permitting; otherwise, you can find our yoga instructors Abby and Laurie guiding their classes through the downward dog in the games room or the restaurant’s dance floor.
Perhaps walking is more your speed, in which case our walking club meets Mondays and Fridays at the General Store at 9:00 am sharp. Bring your best walking shoes! If you want something a little more upbeat but easy on the joints, join us for Pool Aerobics on Tuesday at 10:30 am. This fun and energetic class takes place in our outdoor pool if the weather gives us the go ahead. Another of our weekly events is the infamous pickleball. Grab your rackets and your court shoes – we meet at 10:00 am on Thursday! If none of these events line up for you however, you might want to check out our Line Dancing class on Fridays at 10:00 am. If you never learned how to line dance, here’s your chance!
These are just some of the weekly events running through July and August, but did you know that Gleniffer Lake also has a tennis camp this summer? From July 23rd to the 27th, join Dan Piercy, Len Roche, and Pat Fehr to nail down your tennis talent. These coaches will guide you through drills, expand your knowledge of the rules and etiquette, and enhance your court skills. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or an intermediate player, this camp is for you if you are seven years old and older and dream of becoming your family’s pro tennis player! If tennis isn’t your thing, then perhaps the Car Show and Shine on August 18th will get you revved up. All vehicles are welcome in the show, including cars, trucks, planes, boats, and even golf carts. All you have to do is register your vehicle at the baseball diamond at 11:00 am on the 18th to join in the fun.
These are just some of the many events Gleniffer Lake is proud to host during the summer. If you’re looking for an especially fun filled weekend, join us the first weekend of August for a garage sale, a street dance on Saturday, and a bike parade on Sunday along with fireworks for Family Day!
