Will My Kids Have Lots To Do At Gleniffer Lake Resort?

Taking your littles on vacation can sometimes be such a toss-up over whether the rental property is truly kid friendly. Will there be enough things for them to do to stay entertained? Will they have a good time? When you take your kids with you, you want them to feel as though it’s their vacation too and not just for their parents. So if you’re asking “will my children have lots to do at Gleniffer Lake Resort,” our resounding answer is YES and here’s why!

 

We strive to be as family-friendly as we can here at Gleniffer Lake Resort and Country Club and with the kids in mind, we’ve filled our calendar with events and our resort with amenities. If you’ve got a kid who loves everything sports, we have a baseball diamond, tennis courts, a basketball court and beach volleyball for some epic games with other resort kids. Yes, the kids actually play together here! There’s a games room in the Clubhouse where board game showdowns are encouraged, there are two playgrounds on-site with a full swing set, a collection of outdoor fitness apparatuses for the kids to test out, as well as five horseshoe pits to stage your championship competitions. 

 

Maybe your kiddos are more into building sandcastles than competitions, but if a sandcastle competition were to break out, our nearly 5,000 feet of gorgeous, sandy shoreline seems the perfect place to do it! There’s plenty of room for you to set up the umbrella and cozy in with a good book while you watch the kids play. Did we mention we have one of the prettiest lakes in Alberta? We’re biased of course, but once you take a dip in the crystal clear waters, you might agree with us on this. You can take full advantage of the cool lake waters on hot days and if you have a boat, bring it with you! We have boat slips for rent and you can spend as many lazy days on the water as you like! 

 

If the kids aren’t in the mood for the lake but still want to swim, we’ve got an outdoor and an indoor pool on-site at the Clubhouse, and we also have a hot tub! Soak up the sun on the pool deck while the kids practice their cannon balls, but be careful not to sit too close to the splash zone!

 

These are just some of the amenities we have to keep you occupied and our events calendar has something for everyone. Halloween in August is swiftly approaching and we encourage you to bring your imagination, as well as a costume! Come dressed up on August 6th at 7 pm for a dance party with the DJ! On Canada Day we host a bike parade and movie nights are a big deal during the summer, don’t forget to pick up your ice cream and other treats at the General Store for your movie nights!

The ice for our winter fun activities wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of these volunteers and Bing Fountain. We are very thankful to have them on board with us to create a perfect winter wonderland for our guests and our residents! 

 

All our facilities have switched to winter hours, meaning the indoor pool, the fitness room, the games room and the laundry room will be open from 8:30 am to 9 pm. And don’t forget about our hot tub with a view, it might become a staple in your winter getaway with us! Please take full advantage of our games room to pass some time as the snow falls. If you’ve had your lakehouse for some time or you’re ready to spruce it up with a new makeover, here are a few easy tips on how to bring some life and excitement to your lakeside cottage! 

 

Colour Schemes

Many lakeside or beachside homes are dressed up in nautical themes full of various shades of blues, sandy tones and white. While nautical themes are a traditional and a wonderful way to decorate your cottage, there are a few other colour schemes we love! Using browns from light to dark chocolate can bring a warm, earthy feel to your cottage and is a terrific base for a rustic cabin feel. Having a timer on for lights inside the home makes it look lived in which is another way to prevent invaders. Double Check Windows and Doors

As a rule, always double-check you’ve locked every window and door of your vacation home. Many break-ins happen simply because a window was left unlocked by accident. Consider installing doors with keyless locks and if there are sliding glass doors on the property, make sure to use a security bar. A security bar can be used in almost any window sill, but a two-by-four or a broom handle cut to size in the basement windows will also do the trick if you don’t mind how it looks. Be sure to secure that doggy door too, if you have one!

 

Make Friends With Neighbors 

Besides the wonderful social aspect of getting on with your neighbours, fostering a good relationship with those that live close to you provides extra protection when you’re away from your vacation home, as well as collecting mail or newspapers. Watchful neighbours are an extra set of eyes to report suspicious activity, lowering crime rates in the entire area. It pays to know your neighbours!

 

A few extra tips to keep your vacation home safe include hiring a landscaper to keep up with overgrown grass or plant life on your property and refrain from hiding a spare key somewhere obvious. Introducing Tracy Hirsch, the newest agent at Paradise Realty!

We are so excited to announce the newest addition to our sales team and Paradise Realty family, Tracy Hirsch! Tracy has over 20 years of experience in the sales industry and her enthusiasm for realty has brought her to the shores of our favourite little slice of Alberta heaven, Gleniffer Lake Resort! We would love to introduce you to Tracy!

 

When Tracy and her husband decided they wanted to invest in a “lake place,” they had no idea how hard they would fall for the friendly community of Gleniffer Lake. “We did a lot of research, a lot of touring and had many boxes that needed to be checked before we would decide where we would invest. From the moment we saw the beautiful Gleniffer Lake arch and the gorgeous winding road, we fell in love. Little did we know that arch would become our relaxation checkpoint for many years to come!” 

 

Tracy’s true love has always been properties and decorating both inside and out, but most of all her passion is people and connection. With this in mind, she decided to do something just for her, and that was to get her realtor license! She obtained her license while still working full time and raising a family with her husband, determined to reach her goal. “I was strictly doing this for myself and fulfilling a dream I always had. While I enjoyed the lake, I admired Diane and Carla and the job they were doing around the resort. Do you love tennis but never got around to learning how to play? Well, the 10th annual Family Tennis Camp is for you! The camp kicks off at 9:00am on July 22nd and runs until the 26th, and is suitable for beginners and intermediate players alike. Get ready to serve alongside the pros with ex-pro tennis player Ian Paxton and coaches Pat Fehr, Dan Piercy, and Len Roche. If you’re looking for a fun way to learn a new skill with your family, this is it! The camp is open to both adults and children 7 and up.
 
If you need something to keep you and the kids occupied on Family Day, why not participate in our annual family day parade? On August 4th at 10:00am, dress up your golf carts, bikes, wagons, pets, and even yourselves and join in the fun as we cruise around the community to show off our spiffy rides. Following the parade, the GLR Social Committee is waiting with hotdogs and juice for you and your family. Did we mention we end the day with fireworks?
 
One of our most anticipated events during the summer is Halloween in August and this year it can’t come fast enough! Don your best spooky costumes and take the kids trick or treating from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and then get ready to dance the night away at the Adult Halloween Dance with DJ Chris. With prizes for best costumes, drink and appetizer specials and a 50/50, you’ll be dancing the night away to Monster Mash in style.
 
With these just being a few of the exciting events planned this summer, you’re guaranteed to find something to do with your friends and family. Fill your calendar with weekly yoga and aquasize classes, line dancing lessons, or join the walking club to get a good start to your mornings. Gleniffer Lake Resort and the Summer Events Calendar!

If you haven’t heard, Gleniffer Lake is the place to be this summer. Not just for the views, but for the events we love to host! For those who live fulltime on the lake, the calendar of events during the summer months is such a nice reminder of the community that surrounds this gorgeous lakeside resort. If you’re a visitor to Gleniffer Lake, this community events calendar might have exactly what you need to relax on your next summer vaycay!
Once you’ve settled in at one of our beautiful rental properties, take a look at what kind of activities we offer and find what suits you! If yoga is what you crave, you better believe we have yoga classes for you Tuesday mornings at 9:30 am and at 9:00 am on Wednesdays and Thursday. If these are a little early for you, we also host a class at 11am on Mondays. All our yoga classes meet at the landing if weather is permitting; otherwise, you can find our yoga instructors Abby and Laurie guiding their classes through the downward dog in the games room or the restaurant’s dance floor.
Perhaps walking is more your speed, in which case our walking club meets Mondays and Fridays at the General Store at 9:00 am sharp. Bring your best walking shoes! If you want something a little more upbeat but easy on the joints, join us for Pool Aerobics on Tuesday at 10:30 am. This fun and energetic class takes place in our outdoor pool if the weather gives us the go ahead. Another of our weekly events is the infamous pickleball. Grab your rackets and your court shoes – we meet at 10:00 am on Thursday! If none of these events line up for you however, you might want to check out our Line Dancing class on Fridays at 10:00 am. If you never learned how to line dance, here’s your chance!
These are just some of the weekly events running through July and August, but did you know that Gleniffer Lake also has a tennis camp this summer? From July 23rd to the 27th, join Dan Piercy, Len Roche, and Pat Fehr to nail down your tennis talent. These coaches will guide you through drills, expand your knowledge of the rules and etiquette, and enhance your court skills. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or an intermediate player, this camp is for you if you are seven years old and older and dream of becoming your family’s pro tennis player! If tennis isn’t your thing, then perhaps the Car Show and Shine on August 18th will get you revved up. All vehicles are welcome in the show, including cars, trucks, planes, boats, and even golf carts. All you have to do is register your vehicle at the baseball diamond at 11:00 am on the 18th to join in the fun.
These are just some of the many events Gleniffer Lake is proud to host during the summer. If you’re looking for an especially fun filled weekend, join us the first weekend of August for a garage sale, a street dance on Saturday, and a bike parade on Sunday along with fireworks for Family Day! Gleniffer Lake: A History

With a gorgeous beach and so much to do during the summer months, Gleniffer Lake is a hot spot for summer vacations, family get togethers, or just an escape from the hubbub of the city. Whether you’re an avid golfer or someone who just likes to drive the golf cart, someone who loves water activities like sailing, or you’re a sand castle artist, the lake community has something for everybody. It may be beautiful now, but did you know that Gleniffer Lake didn’t exist before 1983?
Gleniffer Lake, or the Gleniffer Reservoir, is a manmade lake situated in the heart of central Alberta. It was originally formed in 1983 because of the Dickson Dam construction happening at the same time. The dam impounded the Red Deer River, an affluent of the Saskatchewan River, and was built primarily to enhance the the condition of the river, but also to manage flood water and winter runoff. It’s construction prompted the formation of the reservoir, for the purpose of providing recreational capabilities and forming a water supply for prospective municipal and industrial expansions.
The lake stretches 7 kilometers by 2 kilometers with a surface area of about 17 square kilometers. It’s depth ranges around 38 feet with the deepest point in the lake extending down 108 feet. This makes Gleniffer Lake an impeccable place to bring out your Cadence CS5 Spinning Reel and test out your fishing skills. Several species of fish call the deep waters of the lake home, including pike, trout, and walleye. The lake also provides local and nearby residences with fresh drinking water!

Three Reasons to Try a “Staycation”

We’ve all heard the term “staycation,” but most people, especially us Albertans, might not consider “staycations” as getaways during the colder, much more bitter months of the year.  Even perhaps in summer, the term staycation might have an unusual ring to it, but when it simply isn’t feasible to fly off each year for a beach side vacation, us prairie folk have to find ways to get resourceful.  When we think vacation, we often associate the word with beaches, sailing, boating, golfing, tennis, maybe even ice cream springs to mind.  What if these kinds of amenities were available close to home?  What if a first class, family oriented, waterfront resort existed just a two-hour drive from Edmonton or an hour and fifteen commute from Calgary?  Lucky for us, the absolutely gorgeous Glennifer Lake Resort does in fact exist and might be our answer to a “staycation!”  If this isn’t reason enough, here are a few more motivations to choose Glennifer Lake as the site of your next adventure.
Let’s face it; plane rides are cramped, uncomfortable, and if you’re truly blessed, the person next to you had something rather garlicky for lunch and you get to spend the next several hours enjoying this.  Not to mention that flights are becoming increasingly more expensive and dealing with the hassle of an airport can be a nightmare, especially with young children.  Skipping the airport without sacrificing your beach time sounds too good to be true, but Glennifer Lake boasts 5,000 feet of beautiful shoreline and with the temperatures being as gloriously hot as they have been for the past several weeks, that 5,000 feet of beach is the perfect place to kick off your sandals and get your tan on.  And the best part about it is you can skip the entire plane ride!
Besides saving on flights, the resort itself is a much more cost effective way to enjoy a handful of vacation days, or even several weeks of leisure time.  Taking away the rather expensive cost and hours spent on travel leaves more wiggle room to book longer “staycations” with your family, and who doesn’t appreciate more quality time with our loved ones?  The properties available to rent with Paradise Realty are well kept and many of them back onto the full length, 9-hole golf course and several rental properties are even beachfront!
