Renovation Ideas For Your Vacation Property

Owning vacation property is a dream come true for many families and snowbirds, but do you know what’s the best part about owning your own piece of vacation paradise? You get to design it! If you’ve recently purchased property or you’re looking to spice up that lakefront cabin to feel new and fresh, we’ve got some renovation ideas for your vacation home!

Budgeting

Whether the property is just for you or you plan on renting it for a bit of extra income, always make sure you’re keeping your budget at top of your mind. Devising a strategy for renovations is a must if you’re working with limited funds, so make sure to prioritize the necessary furniture and appliances first before jumping into the decor and the world of accessories. It’s also a good idea to budget per room – ie, selecting the kitchen or the bathroom to renovate first rather than trying to tackle everything at once. Planning and budgeting will be your friend for your renovations!

Theme

Some folks love to stick to a theme when they spruce up their property. Many beachside homes have an ocean or nautical theme, which is a wonderful way to enhance that waterfront view. Themes can be very simple too, such as picking a colour and dressing your home in a monochrome palette. For example, forest green for an accent wall with various shades of green for furniture, pillows, artwork, placemats, linens, kitchenware and more creates that delightful unity throughout the home. Earth tones and warm woods are popular for many vacation properties and a theme as simple as “forest” can be used for a cohesive throughline. Your vacation home is a wonderful opportunity to express yourself while also creating a cozy, friendly vacation experience for you and your family.

Comfort First

Your vacation home is a place for you to escape the realities of work and sometimes even life as a whole, so shouldn’t your paradise property be cozy and comfortable? Bed linens, pillows and blankets are a perfect way to bring comfort to your home away from home. Crawling into bed at your lakeside or mountain cabin should be a luxurious experience, one you look forward to! Extend this to your towels and bathroom linens, opting for plush overall. Sometimes the best way to update a vacation home is to make it so comfortable, that you have a hard time leaving!

DIY Strategies

Another easy way to renovate is to throw a coat of paint on some walls or experiment with that gorgeous wallpaper you bought on a whim. Adding wallpaper to the bathroom can immediately make it more expressive and exciting and you’re able to play with colour combos to match the paper. Decorative moulding is another way to add character to any room and brings depth and interest to an accent wall.

Having a vacation home is the dream, but dreaming bigger once you have the home is even better. Don’t be afraid to bring a bit of flair, a bit of you, to your vacation property. If you’re in the market for a lakeside home, have you thought about checking out our available properties? Give us a call and we’ll book you in for a tour!

What Puts Our Lake Above All Others?

Families and snowbirds alike flock to the shores of Gleniffer Lake during the hot and sunny months to enjoy as many lake related activities as they can pack into a summer get-away! It’s no secret that lakes are a prime vacation spot among Albertans and that the province has quite a few bodies of water frequented by vacationers. But we’re here to tell you why Gleniffer Lake is the perfect place for you and your family this summer!
With nearly 5000 feet of beautiful shoreline, Gleniffer Lake boasts some of the best sandcastle-building sand in Central Alberta! The lake itself is massive, spanning nearly seven kilometers in length and two kilometers wide, and the deep waters are crystal clear. We are proud to say that the river-fed lake is completely blue-green algae-free, and we work hard to keep it that way. The lake resort is also a gated community, meaning the amount of traffic is significantly less compared to other lakes. This makes it that much easier to enjoy a peaceful afternoon of sailing!
Perhaps you’d like to try your hand at fishing—the lake is home to many trout, walleye, and pike, and just five minutes up the road is the Dickson trout pond, fully stocked with as many rainbow trout as you can catch. However you like to spend your time on the water, Gleniffer Lake has something to keep you occupied!
If lakeside vacationing is calling your name this summer, take a peek at the available properties we have to rent for your family and pets. That’s right, Gleniffer Lake is pet friendly! If you’re more of a camping expert, we have a wonderful campground with full hookups and so many amenities, you might be asking yourself why you don’t own a property here!

Get to the Beach Before School Starts!

Summertime is when kids get to expend all that excess energy they’ve built up over the school year. This means running around in the sunshine for hours on end, water fights in the heat, and generally just being kids in the outdoors. But sometimes it’s hard to be outside when living in the busy and crowded city. If you and the kids have been cooped up this summer and need an excuse to get outside, a summer beach vacation might be just what the family needs. This doesn’t mean you need to fly out to the tropics or the Caribbean to find a good beachfront resort. Gleniffer Lake Resort might just be the perfect “staycation” spot for you and the kids before school starts!
The nice thing about Gleniffer Lake is it’s a beachfront resort that you can get to without breaking the bank. The resort is a short commute from most of Alberta’s central cities and shorter travel time means less activities you need to plan to keep the kids occupied. Situated 2 hours south of Edmonton, 75 minutes north of Calgary and a short 35 minutes southwest of Red Deer, Gleniffer Lake is so easily accessible it’s almost laughable. The gated community is safe, family friendly and boasts summer activities for everyone.
With an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis courts, a basketball court, a baseball diamond, two playgrounds and an off-leash field for the dog, you’ll be sure to find something to keep you busy. But the real draw is the Gleniffer Lake beach. With over a kilometer and a half of gorgeous sand, the beach is the highlight for many families that visit the resort. Sandcastle building competitions with the kids and water fights in the clean, clear waters of Gleniffer Lake is a favourite of both adult and kid vacationers. After those long days of play at the beach, you can find Foothills Creamery Ice Cream at the general store along with DVD rentals for a family movie night.

Spending quality time with kids on a summer staycation is still possible before summer wraps up. Whether you choose to spend a week or every weekend at Gleniffer Lake this August, you deserve that beach vacation without the stress of travelling or the hefty expenses. Not only does Gleniffer Lake have all the amenities you could want, but the community holds Monday to Thursday yoga practices and a walking club meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The events calendar helps you plan your week if you’d like to do more than just be a beach bum, though beach bumming is encouraged. However you decide to spend your staycation with the family at Gleniffer Lake, it will be a summer vacation the kids will be talking about well into the school year!

Gleniffer Lake: A History

With a gorgeous beach and so much to do during the summer months, Gleniffer Lake is a hot spot for summer vacations, family get togethers, or just an escape from the hubbub of the city. Whether you’re an avid golfer or someone who just likes to drive the golf cart, someone who loves water activities like sailing, or you’re a sand castle artist, the lake community has something for everybody. It may be beautiful now, but did you know that Gleniffer Lake didn’t exist before 1983?
Gleniffer Lake, or the Gleniffer Reservoir, is a manmade lake situated in the heart of central Alberta. It was originally formed in 1983 because of the Dickson Dam construction happening at the same time. The dam impounded the Red Deer River, an affluent of the Saskatchewan River, and was built primarily to enhance the the condition of the river, but also to manage flood water and winter runoff. It’s construction prompted the formation of the reservoir, for the purpose of providing recreational capabilities and forming a water supply for prospective municipal and industrial expansions.
The lake stretches 7 kilometers by 2 kilometers with a surface area of about 17 square kilometers. It’s depth ranges around 38 feet with the deepest point in the lake extending down 108 feet. This makes Gleniffer Lake an impeccable place to bring out your Cadence CS5 Spinning Reel and test out your fishing skills. Several species of fish call the deep waters of the lake home, including pike, trout, and walleye. The lake also provides local and nearby residences with fresh drinking water!
Gleniffer Lake may be manmade, but the memories made here are natural and treasured. If you’ve ever wondered what Gleniffer Lake is all about, why not come take a look for yourself? At just 75 minutes north of Calgary, a mere 45 minutes southwest of Red Deer or a 2 hour road trip from Edmonton, Gleniffer Lake is easily accessible for those who live in the city. Come see why we have loved Gleniffer Lake and all it has to offer since 1983!
